I usually write here about my own studio in Lower Bavaria. Today I’m making an exception – because sometimes there are places you simply want to recommend to others.
If you’re a photographer working in Prague and looking for a studio for boudoir, nude, glamour or portrait shoots, then take a look at Prague Boudoir. The studio is run by Nikola and Vaclav – and it’s one of those rare places where not only is the set-up just right, but the atmosphere is too.
Perhaps the name Nikola rings a bell: she’s been in front of my camera time and again for a long time now, and her words are among the voices that mean a great deal to me. So I know exactly what I’m talking about when I say: with these two, you’re in good hands.
A space that breathes
The first thing that catches the eye is the space: around 134 square metres with a ceiling height of 3.2 metres and parquet flooring. For boudoir and nude photography, this is a real boon. You can position the light far enough away from the model, experiment with focal lengths and set up several sets side by side without it feeling cramped.
Added to this are tall, south-facing windows. Anyone who enjoys working by natural light will find the conditions here simply wonderful. And because there are blackout curtains, you can control the light exactly as you need it – from soft, natural light to a dark, dramatic low-key effect.
Features that someone has thought of
You can tell that the studio was set up by people who take photographs themselves. As well as flash and LED lighting with countless light modifiers, there are V-flats, tripods, clamps and all those little bits and pieces that you usually forget: Cinefoil, Plexiglas, Mylar.
For the photo shoot, there are more than ten backdrops made of paper, canvas and fabric, as well as white posing cubes, antiques, paintings and characterful furniture. And for anyone arriving with clients or models who don’t have their own wardrobe: there’s a collection of over 30 high-quality lingerie sets and many other items of clothing in various sizes.
So if you’re travelling to Prague with just a light bag, there’s no need to worry. Almost everything is taken care of here.
More than just a rental studio
What makes Prague Boudoir special is what goes beyond simply hiring the venue:
- Nikola is herself a fine art model, as well as a qualified make-up artist and stylist. Having worked with her on many shoots, I can say that she is a true professional in front of the camera – creative, precise and with a keen eye for light and expression.
- Vaclav has been a full-time model photographer for many years and, on request, also works as a coach, art director or assistant.
- The pair offer private workshops on model photography, lighting, posing and image editing – for beginners and experienced photographers alike. Equipment is provided, so you don’t even need to bring your own camera.
- If you wish, you can also book a comprehensive package: studio, lighting, styling and, if required, art direction – all from a single source.
This is worth its weight in gold, especially when you’re taking photos in a new city. Instead of having to organise a model, a make-up artist and a studio separately, you can find everything here under one roof.
The most important thing: people
You can buy facilities. You can’t buy warmth.
And that is exactly what means the most to me about Prague Boudoir. Nikola and Vaclav are hosts who make you feel welcome from the very first moment. Nikola once wrote about our photo shoots that she ‘always feels very comfortable and valued’ – and that’s exactly the feeling the two of them give back to everyone who comes to their studio. There’s good coffee and tea, there’s laughter, and they take time for one another. You arrive as a guest – and leave feeling a bit like a friend.
For boudoir and nude photography, this atmosphere is not a luxury, but a prerequisite. A model who feels comfortable and confident opens up in a completely different way in front of the camera. The studio describes itself as cosy, safe, friendly and private – and that is exactly how I found it.
The little things are just right too: the studio is clean and smoke-free, and you can park for free right outside all day – which is by no means a given in Prague.
Who the studio is suitable for
Prague Boudoir is a good choice if you
- if you’re looking for a fully equipped studio in Prague for a few hours or a whole day,
- if you’d like to do a boudoir, nude, glamour or couples’ photoshoot with a client or a model,
- if you’d like to develop your skills in lighting, posing or editing in a workshop,
- or are simply looking for a place where you can work in a peaceful, trusting atmosphere.
You can find prices and available slots directly on the studio’s website. It’s best to send Nikola and Vaclav a quick message in advance to let them know what you’re planning – they’ll be happy to help you organise it.
My conclusion
I firmly believe that great photography is created where people treat one another with respect and warmth. At Prague Boudoir, this is combined with a superbly equipped space. Any photographer visiting Prague should definitely check out this studio.
Nikola and Vaclav – thank you for your hospitality. I’d love to come back.
