Closeness from a distance – a remote photoshoot with Carla Monaco

When the coronavirus sent us all back to our own homes, the studios came to a standstill too. No photo shoots, no meetings, no working together with light and people. But the desire to create images remained – and so an idea was born: if we can’t get together, then we’ll simply take photos from a distance.

I tried out exactly that with the enchanting Carla Monaco. She was at home, I was at my screen, connected only via a video link. Together, we sought out the light coming through the window, discovered fabrics and nooks in her flat, and developed poses step by step. I gave the instructions, Carla put them into practice – with a naturalness and charisma that could be felt even through the screen.

The result is quite different from a studio shoot: more relaxed, more intimate, a little improvised – and that is precisely why it feels so genuine. Pictures from a time when closeness was something special.

Thank you, Carla, for your trust, your patience with the technical side of things and your wonderful energy. This photoshoot is one of my fondest memories of a strange time.

Real. Sensual. Unapologetically You.
